Progress – a wonderful word meaning, in this case, “improvement in technology”. Our A816 Android Tablet PC now comes with Android 2.3 installed and, while the changes, may not be significant under the hood, the improved look and feel of the new user interface masks a subtle but distinct improvement in both speed and stability over older versions of this fine operating system.

All the usual suspects abound – Android Market, Built in Camera, SKYPE voice calling Office APPS, 3G dongle support etc. Take this little beauty for a spin, you won’t be disappointed.

We are pleased to report how responsive the screen is and how good the virtual keyboard feels. The 8″ screen size and it’s squarer design ( 4 : 3 ) evidently helps as the keys are large and well spaced avoiding the problems one finds with so many tablet PCs of pressing the wrong keys or limited response – this is the best we have seen.

    OK where to start!!
These markets are now awash with these cheaper chinese Android tablets. So i registered with 1 or 2 forums who have dedicated sections for just about all models.
As i cant compare it with other tablets having only this one i can only realy rate this stand alone.
Wendy sent out really quickly and with good comms.

After taking it out of the box i was happy to say it was bigger than expected and certainly more useful size wise than my friends 7 inch version of similar make.
Those unfamiliar with Android will feel a little lost to start with but its fairly intuative (sp?) to use.
I then encountered my first problem. The app market on this machine is set to the US market meaning many UK apps (including the BBC iplayer) cannot be installed or even be found via the tablet. If you can see on the app market fine, then you say which account your going to use (i set up a new gmail account just for this machine) itll say that the app is not suitable for this machine. The build prop file says T mobile US, locale US.
I would highley recomend you reaseach this as its becoming quite an issue for quite few other tablet users. There is no easy work around.
There is other bits within this on gingerbread that people havent found how to change yet.
A work around is to use app market enabler and change the carrier to UK/GB. That works but not on all.
They are working on fix to this say await with baited breath.(and forgot to mention the ac plug fell apart with 2 uses and had send back tablet and ac)
Still, its working to an extent so ill get onto the machine itself.
It plays just about any media file ive found by using to players to download mxplayer being the best for me.
Screen size makes it quite useful for using reading apps such as the kindle app, google books etc.
Video is more than exceptable for watching movies etc.
Set yourself up using es explorer thats built in and use LAN settings to explore files on your PC!!
I now use 2 methods for watching and storing media. VLC player allows you to stream to the device without having to store on the tablet! An also as said es explorer alowwing viewing and playing of files you allowed to be viewed on PC!! Also means quicker/easier than using usb as you dont need to be near the PC.
Another good app that works on this WYSE pocket cloud meaning you can view your PC on the tablet from anywhere.
So your tablet becomes you PC!! Those familiar with VNC will know what im on about :) Its simply an easy VNC set up.

Sound is just excetable but wasnt expecting much
Battery life isnt great but will last most of the day if using not using apps heavy on the battery such as movies etc. I would recomend an advanced app killer to shut down apps auto as they contine to run! Android isnt very good with resource managment.
Wifi pick up is good but will also depend how good your router is of course!
Viweing angle isnt great but just OK.
Touch screen is good but nowhere near as good as my mates multi touch. Bear in mind games that require multitouch wont work but will still be downloaded and paid for as it thinks the machine can use it! It cant!!

As an introduction into the world of tablets its a very good buy and worth every penny.
Just dont expect an ipad at 1/3 of the price or less.

Now ive had nearly a month im very happy with the buy and one of the best gadgets ive bought for many years.
Only the annoying app market issue stopping me giving 5 stars.
Would i recomend this machine, a resounding yes.
Next buy will be a capacitive multi touch screen version for a few more pounds – around £170 from A1acs?
Maybe wendy will be selling the same ones? If so ill come back to her !!

Taking it out of the box i was surprised how much bigger it was than expected, it loads apps from market place easily or go on line with your main computer and pick the app you want and if you have got it set up right it’ll just download what you want straight on to the tablet (it seemed to download a lot quicker to me this way). All in all a very nice bit of kit
